SO2 Analyzer


Application: Petroleum Refinery Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Description: Petroleum refineries are required to continuously monitor stack emissions and report results to state environmental agencies to meet state and federal law.  The system shown here is for a Sulfur Recovery Unit Incinerator Stack and monitors sulfur dioxide in the 0 – 500 ppm and 0 – 30,000 ppm ranges, as well as percent level oxygen.  Very high reliability and analytical stability are of utmost importance for CEMS applications.

Solution: The system shown replaced older analyzers and was built on a 48” x 84” panel for installation in an existing analyzer shelter (Class I, Div 2 hazardous area).  The top right housing includes the ABB analyzer system controller and one ABB paramagnetic oxygen analyzer module. The top left housing includes two ABB Limas 11 ultraviolet analyzer modules for the SO2 measurements.  The panel includes all components and valves for auto-calibration and sample probe blowback.
